Aims and Goals

Xenion Summer Fun Club has been offering a quality educational and recreational summer programme to all the children of Famagusta Area, since 2000. We aim to help your children to:

behave in a responsible manner
be fair and understanding
be tolerant and broad-minded
be inspired and motivated
have a joyful, carefree summer.

Premises and Facilities

The Summer Fun Club is accommodated within its own wing of the Xenion High School building. It has its own access and space for parents to drop children off and pick them up again at noon. The Summer Fun Club has its own yard for break-times and children are supervised on their way to and from the Xenion Cafeteria during breakfast and lunch breaks. All classes are equipped with air-conditioning, Interactive White Boards and Internet access. All classrooms open directly onto the yard, which is at a safe distance from the road. The school has a full-sized theatre that is used on Wednesdays’ either to watch films or for music, dance or theatre activities. It also has volleyball and basketball courts; a five-a-side pitch and a dance space above the amphitheatre. As well as all this, there are two computer suites that we use during our IT sessions. There is a comfortable Reception area, where parents can meet with teachers if they wish to discuss anything concerning their children. Our students also take part in swimming sessions per group with a teacher and a lifeguard, at Xenion Boarding House swimming pool, which gives children the opportunity to enjoy swimming and have fun in the pool! Therefore, there are set times and places for parents to pick up or drop off children. If a parent is going to be late or early for any reason they should contact the school so that we can make appropriate arrangements. Under normal circumstances, no-one is allowed to enter the school without an appointment and all visitors must report to the school receptionist.

Learning

Learning at Summer Fun Club is based on experiential learning. The start of summer signals the end of academic learning. Instead we incorporate suitable interactive, educational games into our daily schedule. Through interactive games children use all their senses to learn without realizing that they are learning. Instead of formal teaching we use educational games to engage children and promote learning, allowing children to be active and creative.

Children are encouraged to experiment through carefully monitored play and independent discovery and all intelligences, including kinesthetic, spatial and emotional, are developed. We help children to become confident and self-aware while we make playing the most efficient method of learning. Our teaching methods are child-centered and we take advantage of all new and exciting pedagogical thinking.

Activities

Dance

Dance aids the development of kinaesthetic intelligence. It creates opportunities for self-expression and communication. Dance also teaches the values and skills of creativity.

Art

Art generates a love of learning and an openness to new ideas. It helps to develop the imagination while allowing freedom of expression. Children whose creativity is nurtured are curious and inspired to learn more.

Games / Sports Activities

Daily Physical Education is essential for children. Exercise can improve physical fitness, mental health and sense of wellbeing. At Xenion Summer Club it is also part of the fun! On our premises there’s a futsal pitch and also volleyball and basketball courts. Children are involved in team games and learn how to work as part of a team.

Board Games and Storytelling

are also an important part of our weekly programme, as they reinforce children’s thinking skills and imagination.

English

English is learned in an exciting environment, as students use interactive methods of learning. Interactive stories and exercises, where students use material from real life situations, make sure that students are actively involved in the lesson. Learning is enhanced through play and songs.

Weekly Theme

Every summer, Xenion Summer Fun Club offers nine fabulous, themed weeks of fun! Activities can range from Martial Arts to Scuba Diving, Science workshops, visits by Dieticians and other professionals and more! There’s something for everyone! Full details of the programme are announced shortly before the first day of the Summer Fun Club each summer. Don’t allow your child to miss out! Breakfast

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Xenion Summer Fun Club offers a complete breakfast at 9:00 a.m. every day. Children are offered a choice of ham, halloumi, or cheese sandwiches in sliced or traditional village bread; jam or honey sandwiches or rice pudding or cake or boiled eggs or omelette. We also offer fruit.

We know that every parent is concerned about their children’s education and well-being and so providing an all-round, up-to-date education within a fun programme is the main aim of Xenion Summer Fun Club. The care and personal interest we take, the appropriate and pleasant learning environment we provide, the experienced staff and above all, our love and enthusiasm for what we do are the principles which guide us.
