Fostering Social Skills:

School clubs provide a dynamic platform for students to interact with their peers outside the confines of traditional academic settings. Engaging in group activities cultivates teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills. From collaborative projects to club meetings, students learn the value of effective communication and cooperation—skills that extend far beyond their academic years.

Building Leadership Skills:

Being part of a school club offers students the opportunity to take on leadership roles. Whether as a club president, event organizer, or project leader, students learn to manage responsibilities, make decisions, and inspire their peers. These leadership experiences contribute significantly to their personal and professional development, preparing them for future challenges.

Exploring Interests and Passions:

School clubs cater to a wide range of interests, from academic pursuits to artistic endeavors, sports, and community service. These clubs provide a platform for students to explore their passions, discover new interests, and develop a sense of identity. Whether it’s joining the robotics club, debate team, or environmental club, students find a space where they can express themselves and pursue what they love.

Enhancing Academic Learning:

Beyond the classroom, school clubs offer unique opportunities for students to deepen their understanding of academic subjects. Science clubs conduct experiments, language clubs explore cultural nuances, and math clubs tackle challenging problems. These experiences complement formal education, making learning more enjoyable and practical.

Nurturing Talent and Creativity:

School clubs are a breeding ground for talent and creativity. Whether in the arts, sports, or academics, students have the chance to showcase their unique skills and talents. From drama performances to science fairs, these platforms celebrate individuality, encouraging students to embrace their strengths and contribute to the school community.

Developing a Sense of Community:

Participation in school clubs fosters a sense of belonging and community. Students build lasting friendships with like-minded peers, creating a supportive network that extends beyond graduation. This sense of community is invaluable, contributing to a positive and inclusive school culture. We recognize the transformative power of school clubs in shaping well-rounded individuals. We encourage all our students to explore the myriad opportunities available, discover their passions, and forge connections that last a lifetime. Join us in celebrating the importance of school clubs—where learning goes beyond textbooks and friendships are forged through shared interests and experiences.

School Trips

During the school year, Xenion High School organises two thoughtfully curated trips that blend education with recreation, offering our students unique opportunities for experiential learning beyond the confines of the classroom. These excursions are meticulously planned to align with the academic curriculum while fostering personal growth, social bonds, and a sense of exploration among our students. The school firmly believes in the transformative power of these experiences, recognizing them as an integral part of a holistic education.

The first of the two organized trips is carefully designed to complement the academic curriculum, providing students with a deeper understanding of their coursework through real-world applications. Whether it’s a historical site, a science museum, or an interactive workshop, each destination is chosen to enhance the educational journey and make learning a dynamic and memorable experience.

The second trip takes a more recreational approach, aiming to create moments of joy, relaxation, and team building. This outing provides students with an opportunity to unwind, fostering a positive and stress-free environment that contributes to their overall well-being. These recreational trips are strategically scheduled to balance the academic rigor of the school year, ensuring that students have moments of respite and enjoyment.

Additionally, Xenion values the global perspective and cultural enrichment that international experiences bring. While not compulsory, the school actively facilitates trips abroad and exchange visits whenever possible. These opportunities expose students to diverse cultures, languages, and perspectives, broadening their worldview and nurturing a sense of global citizenship. Whether it’s a cultural exchange program or an overseas educational tour, these optional trips offer students the chance to expand their horizons and gain a deeper appreciation for the interconnectedness of the world.

The school understands that not every student may be able to participate in international trips, and thus, these experiences are designed as optional enrichments. However, for those who choose to embark on these global adventures, the benefits extend far beyond academics, contributing to their personal growth, adaptability, and intercultural understanding.

Raising & Giving

At Xenion, we encourage our students to develop a sense of community and wider responsibility. In other words, we aim to develop active citizens rather than just successful academics. Our students are involved in supporting various good causes.

Under the umbrella of Raising and Giving (RAG), Xenion students are involved in a number of fund-raising activities each year. These include donations to the Radiomarathon to the Make A Wish foundation for very sick children, the Cyprus Association of Cancer Patients and Friends (PASYKAF). As well as this, Xenion students are active members of the Young Volunteers.

Young Volunteers is a Pancyprian organisation of school students who form a network of workers for good causes. They work not only to raise money for good causes but also to raise awareness of some of the problems facing children in this country and abroad. Recently, the Xenion Young Volunteers raised several hundred euros for charities dedicated to the treatment and eradication of Malaria. They also put together an informative presentation, which they showed to the whole school.

The Red Cross Club raises money to support such efforts as Emergency Relief and undertakes voluntary social work in the local community whenever needed.

Our biggest charity event held in our school is our Hairstyling Charity Event. Our students’ initiative to collectively shave their heads was a spontaneous gesture of support for a fellow student who was diagnosed with cancer and it moved not just the microcosm of our school community, but also the general public. From that moment on, our hairstyling event became an annual commitment for a very special cause.

Parents Association

The Parents and Guardians’ Association was established in 2001, the year the school was opened. It functions according to the rules and regulations that were adopted during the first meeting of the members of the Association.

The committee of the Association is elected during the first general parents’ meeting of the school year and its term of office is one year. The committee meets once a month unless there is reason for an extraordinary meeting.

The Association gives the school practical help in achieving its aims and serves as a communication bridge between school and parents. It contributes to the smooth running of the school in several ways: among other things, it provides insurance cover for pupils, it takes care of the Christmas raffle and prizes, it sponsors various school activities and events, it organizes lectures for parents and it sets pupil awards.

International Participation

We believe it is very important for Xenion students to be ready to take their place in Europe. Since our young people will be the future of Europe, it is vital to begin at an early age to teach them what it is to be European. Xenion High School students are active participants in both the European Youth Parliament (EYP) and the Mediterranean Model United Nations (Medi.M.U.N.). Every year, teams from the school travel to other European countries to represent their country and take part in conferences and debates. In addition, Xenion High School is twinned with the Liceo Artistico Cassinari in Piacenza, Italy and Thomas St. Ripley, England and operates a student exchange programme with them. Xenion students are also active on the wider world stage. We participate in the Benjamin Franklin Transatlantic Fellows Summer Institute; a programme set up to create greater understanding between young Americans and Europeans and foster closer bonds between them. We regularly take part in international competitions, such as the World Robotics Olympiad, which saw the Xenion Robotics team, national champions, travelling to India to compete against teams of other young people from all over the world in the finals. Furthermore, our students participate in the Famagusta Students Together Bi-communal programme in which both Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot students participated and collaborated, organised by Xenion High School and supported by UNFICYP. EUROSCOLA: European School Ambassadors Program

Our school is once again taking part in the European School Ambassadors program aiming to strengthen the European identity of our school and nurture European values in the education of our students.

Eight junior ambassadors and a number of volunteers have worked on organized several activities in the last two months which were based on two fundamental pillars. The first has been to promote awareness regarding the European Union’s role in the lives of all citizens. The second was to promote the upcoming European elections and to urge all eligible citizens to take part in the celebration of democracy by casting their vote.

To this effect the following activities were organized and implemented:

01

Information Point

Our first activity to commence the program was the creation of an information point within the school where all students and visitors can learn information about the European School Ambassador program as well as the upcoming elections.

02

Visit to the House of Representatives

As part of the program, Xenion Junior Ambassadors visited the House of Representatives to attend a presentation regarding the history of the democratic body as well as to participate in a Q & A session with the House Speaker Mrs Annita Demetriou.

03

Conduct of Research and Questionnaire

In order to determine the average knowledge of Cypriot citizens, a questionnaire was developed to collect information.

04

Community Interviews

In an attempt to promote awareness about the European citizens, two types of community interviews were organized. The first was held in school with students of Xenion who were asked various questions regarding the European Union such as which are the country members, how EU laws are enforced in Cyprus etc. The second was held in Paralimni square where citizens where asked whether they intended to vote and their reasons.

05

Video campaign

To further promote the participation in the European Elections of 2024, a video was created by the Junior Ambassadors outlining the various reasons why everyone should take part.

06

Radio show

To further promote our message for greater participation in the European elections, our Junior Ambassadors visited Politia FM. During their interview they discussed their participation in the program and shared information about the European elections including how eligible citizens can register in the election catalogue and reasons why everyone eligible should take part.

07

Podcast talks

To engage more stakeholders in the program’s activities our Junior Ambassadors hosted podcast interviews with Mrs Annita Demetriou and Mr Loukas Fourla one of the current MEPs. Both guests were asked about their views regarding the role of the European Union as well as how the youth can take a more active part in political developments.
